7 Best Summary Generator Tools
To test each tool, I input the same 530-word long article about the world's tallest building from Wikipedia. I decided to score each of these article summarizer tools out of 5. In my scoring system, I awarded stars for:
- Summary length options
- Format options
- Wordcount info
- Accuracy
- Readability
Let's see how they fare...
1. Jasper
Our first summary generator tool is Jasper AI. Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few years (no judgment if you have!), you've probably heard of this fantastic tool.
With its advanced algorithms and natural language processing (NLP), Jasper can generate various types of text using its many valuable templates. This includes handy summaries.
Jasper's article summarizer tool did an incredible job extracting key information from the passage! Instead of word count, it provided character count and offered a unique feature - tone of voice selection.
Jasper's output was truly top-notch out of all the text summarizer tools I tried for this experiment! It really pulled out the most important details.
4/5 stars – Jasper drops one star for no control over length. Although technically, you could control length if you were to use the Jasper Chat option rather than the summarize template.

2. Notion AI
Notion, the versatile online tool for project management, productivity, and collaboration, has bolstered its arsenal with an exciting AI element, including a handy summary generator.
Notion condensed our 530-word passage into a neat 71 words. It did a decent job of keeping key points and important points intact.
It doesn't offer length or formatting options and lacks a word count feature. But the readability and accuracy of the main points were actually quite good.
2/5 stars for readability and accuracy.

3. Canva
Canva, the beloved design app for non-designers, has now introduced an AI suite of features to its already impressive range of tools. One of these amazing features is the online summarizing tool. It effortlessly generates a concise summary for you with just a few clicks (learn more about how to write a summary of an article here)!
There's no control over length or format, so it drops two stars for that. And it doesn't show the word count either, so that's another star down.
Canva generated 117 words from the 530 in the passage of text I fed it, and it retained a decent amount of info.
2/5 stars for readability and accuracy.
4. Semrush
Semrush's summary maker is completely free to use!
It offers the convenient option to summarize content as a paragraph or bullet points, with a handy slider to control the length.
During my first attempt, I encountered a small hiccup where it didn't recognize the text I had pasted in the input box. I adjusted the slider between short and medium, generating a concise 57-word summary. However, I did notice that some important information was missing.
Increasing the slider to medium gave me 83 words, but those crucial details remained elusive. Undeterred, I cranked the slider to the max, but the summary was 83 words. It's not the best experience, but hey, it's free!
3/5 stars for word count, readability, and format options.
5. Paraphraser.io
Paraphraser's summarizing tool functions in a similar way to Semrush. Once again, we can summarize as bullet points and adjust the length using a slider, ranging from 25% to 75% of the original text.
Interestingly, I noticed that it generated a summary of 165 words from the original 530, so the math doesn't quite add up. Additionally, it missed out on some important information.
Many text summarizer options seem to prioritize the text at the beginning of the passage. This resulted in the omission of important sentences from the final paragraph of input.
3/5 stars for word count, readability, and format options.
6. Quillbot
The Quillbot summarizing tool allows you to choose from 4 options for the length of the summarized text. As well as allowing you to summarize a piece of text quickly and extract relevant sentences directly from the text.
While Quillbot did better than some of the tools on this list, the text raised more questions than it answered due to its brevity. In the short summary length, it generated 81 words across 4 sentences from the original 530-word passage.
3.5/5 stars – drops one star for no bullet points and half a star for accuracy.
7. Summary Generator
Summary Generator is super easy to use (like, really basic!). All you have to do is copy and paste your text and hit the button. It doesn't have fancy options for output length, bullet points, or anything like that. It doesn't even show a word count.
From the original 530 words, it generated 158. But, like other tools, it missed some important information at the end of the passage.
1.5/5 stars for accuracy and readability.
What Can a Summary Generator Tool Do For You?
A summary tool can help you quickly and accurately condense long pieces of text into shorter, more concise versions. This is especially helpful if you need a quick overview of a long text or book chapter.
By eliminating unnecessary words and phrases from a text, summarizer tool options can succinctly convey the relevant information of a text to its readers. Using these machine learning tools, you can save time and energy while ensuring that the main ideas are communicated accurately.
This makes them an invaluable resource for anyone who needs to quickly understand complex texts or compress a lengthy document, research paper, news article, or blog content into more manageable chunks.

Final Thoughts on Summary Generator Tools
While some summary tool options may not be as accurate or comprehensive as others, they can still provide valuable insight and be useful to summarize information from lengthy content. With the help of these tools, you can quickly digest longer texts and save yourself time and energy in the process.
In conclusion, a summarization tool can be a great asset for anyone looking to quickly and accurately condense large chunks of text.
These tools can save you time by concisely conveying the most important information of your source material with fewer words. They are also an invaluable resource for those who need to quickly understand complex texts or convert lengthy documents into more digestible forms.
