With Notion AI, you can quickly generate summaries that give you an overview of the main points in a piece of work, saving you time and energy.
As an example, I tried it with a Wikipedia entry on the world's tallest building, which had 634 words, and got a 104-word summary. While some important details might be missing, it still gives you a pretty good overview of the topic.
When I tried this with ChatGPT, the summary was 380 words long, so still over 50% of the original length! I asked it to summarize it in 100 words, and it did a much better job of it with this more specific prompt.
Winner: It's a tie - both tools did a good job of summarizing the text without losing pertinent details.

Working with text in other languages can be challenging. Accurately conveying ideas without proper translation is no easy task.
Fortunately, Notion AI's Translate feature makes converting words into different languages effortless. In this example, I used English-to-Spanish translation to preview how my text would appear in Spanish.
So, I also asked ChatGPT to translate my passage into Spanish. And since I'm not exactly fluent in Spanish, I can't really vouch for its grammatical accuracy in the language, but it's definitely better than anything I could have come up with on my own!
Winner: Maybe someone who speaks Spanish can decide this!
Edit Voice & Tone
This feature of Notion AI gives you the flexibility to adjust the tone to professional, casual, friendly, straightforward, or confident, allowing you to create the perfect voice for your project. It's a fantastic way to make small adjustments without rewriting your entire document.
To test this feature, I asked each of these AI tools to rewrite my passage in a friendly tone.
Winner: ChatGPT
Make Shorter or Longer
I really love this feature of Notion AI!
When I asked it to expand my text, it seamlessly added more captivating details that enhanced the story. It seriously made the whole piece much more compelling.
And it's also great at condensing content. It skillfully removes unnecessary words while keeping it super readable and preserving the main message.
In both cases, it significantly improves the quality of the output, making it sound better while still staying true to the original meaning.
I gave ChatGPT the prompt, "Please make this passage longer, adding extra detail to make it more compelling." It went a bit overboard with the flowery language, but there are some helpful additions. Alright, Stephen King, it's time to wrap it up!
Winner: Notion AI for keeping it concise while still being able to add valuable details.
Explain
This feature is really valuable for analyzing a passage and diving into the author's intentions. It gives you an explanation of the text, breaking down the main ideas and important points. Plus, it helps you identify key topics for further exploration and provides insights on interpreting specific phrases.
On top of that, this feature is super helpful for teaching writing skills and improving your understanding of what makes writing impactful and effective.
Use Simpler Language
When I tested out this feature in NotionAI, I spotted that it simply copied the article without making any noticeable changes. So, I'm not entirely sure if it worked as expected in this case with the example I provided... Maybe it's still in beta.
By contrast, ChatGPT was able to rewrite the passage in a simpler way without me needing to specify reading levels or anything like that.
